HTC’s latest eye-popping Sense UI ported over to Motorola DROID

Motorola Droid does a lot. And now it even does HTC’s latest Sense UI version. Who cares about the missing MotoBLUR when new Sense UI is so cool!

Both, Motorola Droid and its European bro, the MILESTONE, lack company’s own MotoBLUR UI but nobody would care about that when the new custom ROM with HTC newest Sense UI is finally ready.
The custom ROM has been created by some guys over at AllDroid but unfortunately, it’s still not ready for prime time. But it looks quite stable on the video demo.

Thanks to the port, you not only get a colorful, eye-catching UI, but also 7 homescreens and the Leap feature, which lets you view all homescreen panes at once with a pinch gesture (as seen on the latest HTC Desire).
The new ROM also brings along Flash video support but it’s officially coming to Droid/MILESTONE sometime this year anyways.

Skype is now available for Symbian OS

All the owners of Symbian^1 powered devices are now able to download and install Skype. It offers all the functionality of the desktop Skype app and can use both 3G and Wi-Fi connection.

You can download Skype for Symbian from the official website or from the Nokia Ovi Store.

Currently Skype runs only on Symbian-running Nokia handsets, but soon the app will become compatible with all kinds of Symbian devices (such as Samsung and Sony Ericsson).

Vivaz homescreen ported to Satio, 720p video recording in the works

I’m sure many of you thought about the difference between Vivaz and Satio and why the 12 megapixel camera of the Satio couldn’t record 720p videos. The Vivaz has an advantage over Satio with its slightly faster 720 MHz processor, but is that really the problem?

Since Samsung Omnia HD uses the same hardware and Symbian OS as Sony Ericsson Satio, it’s fair enough to ask why the ex-Idou is limited to VGA video capturing.
Well a guy called Raafat Akkad will try to undo the injustice by porting the Vivaz goodies to Satio.
His first step was to give us the new Vivaz homescreen along with an ambient light sensor enabler. The patch is now version 2 and should be pretty clean of bugs. If you own a Satio and you’re interested into having the upgraded Vivaz homescreen and/or really want your ambient light sensor working – you may consult with this blog and see how it’s done.
Raafat Akkad is now working on the 720p for Satio. Let’s hope he will succeed and make the Satio users around the globe happier than Steve Jobs when their latest financial results came out.

The iPad is hitting the USA on 3 April, preorders start in a week

The iPad is coming. On April 3. And that’s as official as it gets. And if you want to be among the first owners of Apple’s latest creation, you can pre-order one starting on March 12.

Up until now it was known that the Wi-Fi-only versions of the Apple iPad will start shipping within 60 days after iPad’s announcement while the Wi-Fi + 3G capable iPads were expected to become available within a month later. Not clear enough, huh?
Well, now it can’t get any clearer. Visiting Apple’s website you’ll see that preorders in the USA start on March 12 and less than a month later, on April 3, iPod’s bigger brother will start selling. The rest of the world will see the iPad an iTad later.
The prices of the diverse iPad versions remain untouched, howev

New details revealed on Microsoft Courier tablet, don’t sign up for an iPad just yet

Remember the awesome Microsoft tablet concept that leaked last September? Granted, there’s nothing official yet, but meanwhile some new details leaked online through a “reliable source”.

The Microsoft Courier will act as a digital journal – means to organize your life and put down notes, drawings, pictures, videos or audio messages.

Microsoft Courier tablet user interface
As we mentioned before the pen you see on those shots won’t be just a stylus. It will pack two buttons – an eraser and twists to alternate different drawing modes. There’s also an undo button on top of it.
The Courier is designed to be portable as much as possible and would be only an inch thick (about 25mm). The weight won’t be a problem too – it’s expected to be less than half a kilo (one pound).
Microsoft Courier won’t run on Windows Phone 7 but instead will have its own proprietary OS and its own application eco system. It should also feature a full web browser and a file manager. Apple might want to think on that last one.
The fancy tablet is rumored to be powered by the Tegra 2 hardware platform.
We should expect the Microsoft Courier Q3 or Q4 this year. There is nothing official yet, though.
